New Eastern Box Turtle Arrives ~ Part 2

New turtle arrived today.I put it in the yard near the wading pool so he(she?)could have a drink & soak if he wants to.I ordered a female but am pretty sure this is a male.Also he has a small abscess behind his left ear.I'm in process of accumulating a lotta turtles to breed next year so the mistake on sexing him is no big deal to me especially since it's such a nice clorful one.Also I've had a lot of experience treating absesses back in the 90's when I had my old turtle yard so that's not a big deal to me either.A lot of people would probably want to return him what with the abscess & possible sexing mistake but I figure I'll keep him since who knows what'll happen to him if I send him back.When I lance the abscess I'll do a vid of it so folks will see what's involved in that.It's not something reccomended for beginners but it's a fairly simple procedure.I'll have to get a tank to keep him in inside til he heals up.So once I get a tank ready I'll do a vid of the lancing procedure.I think he's going to be just fine & since it's an old healed abscess I doubt if there's any problem as far as infecting my other turtles right now.

update 8/6--after getting the trio & comparing them I can say for sure I was wrong about this turtle--she's a she! :-)

cool but where did u get it because Ive been looking for one at pet stores but i cant find them any where

That is a female. The eyes are brown looking and I think males have a plastron that is inward slightly. That is how I could tell, I looked it up on google. If it helps. I found a Eastern Box a few days ago. I let it go though. But I would like to have my own turtle pen. lol

Did you ever have to lance that abscess? Just curious. Glad "he" turned out to be the "she" you wanted - but I also applaud the fact that you wouldn't have returned the turtle regardless for fear of what the might do, as in not help the turtle and at worst, dispose of it like "bad merchandise." Living beings shouldn't be treated like that. :)
