For reference on SaabCentral.com, my 9-5 making a whistling noise after having the flex pipe fixed. I suspect an exhaust leak from an uncompleted weld. I apologize for some parts of the video having poor sound quality, the guy recording it accidentally covered the mic on the camera a few times.

  • I have the same problem I think. It started when the CEL came on, brought it in to the repair shop, they said it's Secondary Air Pump failure. After they fixed that, the noise stayed on. It happens most of the times I drive, and it comes on every time I step on the gas, louder as I step harder..

  • @tridnguyen I had that same code come up on mine, but the code went away. I haven't bothered with it. I had the sound looked at by my mechanic and he said it's the rear exhaust manifold gasket. Quoted $120 to replace it @ $50 per hour. 2 hour job.

  • @jrodigan5 I see. I don't know what the exhaust manifold gasket is or how to check it. Wonder if I could just leave it there and ignore it.

  • @tridnguyen The exhaust manifold gasket is a gasket between the motor and start of the exhaust system (Called the manifold). You can check for it by using something usually called a "sniffer" that checks for fumes escaping. You can totally ignore it. Mine has been like this for months. You will probably fail emissions testing if your state requires it, though.

  • @jrodigan5 Hey thanks for the quick reply! Can I get this sniffer off ebay for something? is it easy to operate? Do you have a link in mind?

My inspection is mid next year and I wouldn't mind putting it off until then, but maybe I could try and fix it. The noise is not too loud if I turn on the music, but it is starting to annoy me lol.

  • @tridnguyen I can't find any anywhere. The one I used was a Snap-On brand. I don't know the official name of the tool.

It seems like a kinda tough job. Especially on the V6. If you have a 4 cylinder, it might be easier. I'll have my mechanic do it when I finally decide to have it fixed. haha

  • Turns out it was the exhaust manifold gaskets.
