  • At 8:30, why does the patch read "kuk sool"?

  • @johnfrankl You are very observant. That's because in the early 60s, Dr. Joo Bang Lee attempted to unify the existing Korean Martial arts as one to create a single Korean Martial Art under the direction of the former President of Korea, Park Jung Hee. The name that they chose was Han Kook (Korea) Mu (martial) Sul (skill) Won (association), which was shortened to Kuk (nation) Sool(skill) Won (association).

  • Unfortunately, it did not work out and they were disbanded and Dr. Lee went back to teaching Hwa Rang Do , but In Hyuk Suh kept the name until now.

  • I purchased VHS tapes by Joo Bang Lee and Taejoon Lee and learned from both of them (although I felt the Joo Bang Lee tapes were more generous. Mostly, I learned that even though I started martial arts in the 1960s and had over a dozen great instructors, I hadn't nor become the martial artists that I should have been. I am no longer able to practice martial arts because of a spinal injury and that saddens me. I was touched so much by Taejoon's story of his father's gift for a better life.

  • Does he or his headquarters know any Hwa Rang Do in UK, sheffield. Have been looking but still no luck. Will keep looking. Hope he opens in UK and definitely in our city haha. Be awesome.
