This is from an official Prop 8 rally in Sacramento on 10/28. Brad Dacus, an official Prop 8 spokesperson is speaking.

Here's the transcript:

"There was another time in history when people, when the bell tolled. And the question was whether or not they were going to hear it. The time was during Nazi Germany with Adolf Hitler. You see he brought crowds of clergy together to assure them that he was going to look after the church. And one of the members, bold and courageous, Reverend Niemand (sp?) made his way to the front and (inaudible) said "Hitler, we are not concerned about the church. Jesus Christ will take care of the church. We are concerned about the soul of Germany." Embarrassed and chagrined, his peers quickly shuffled him to the back. And as they did Adolf Hitler said, "The soul of Germany, you can leave that to me." And they did, and because they did bombs did not only fall upon the nation of Germany, but also upon the church and their testimony to this very day. Let us not make that mistake folks. Let us hear the bell! Vote on Proposition 8!"

  • As a Jewish gay man, I find this utterly repulsive.

  • ironic how hitler killed homosexuals, and he is saying how bad hitler was, and yet this man is also hating homosexuals.

  • God damn it. At this rate World War III is going to be between the Allies and the United States of America.

  • @HisEmptyHouse If gay people love each other, fine, if gay people want to get marriad than fine. than what? if the state grants it than what? It is marriage only in name, with a few benefits. Fact remains, the true experience of marriage and the consumation of marriage is not there. butt stabbers and dildo users will never experience the sanctity of marriage. It is a Holy institution that ought not be defiled by people who want to prove a point, get a few benefits and recognition.

  • @shakaz01 Also - watch the proposition 8 trial re-enactments before you go any further discussing things here. Anything I can say here is explained in greater detail by both the judge and the plaintiffs. The hurt and stress on people who are not allowed to marry and call it marriage. The legal ramifications of calling if a civil union rather than marriage. The fact that the state has no interest in saying that same-sex couples love and commitment is worth less than that of straight couples

  • @shakaz01 Actually, same-sex marriage has a very long history. And civil unions are not appropriate because they relegate relationships of same-sex partners to a second class status in both legal (you don't get the same rights as a heterosexual couple with a civil union) and societal (the humiliation of being called a 'partner' rather than a 'spouse') situations. The latter is especially humiliating because it says that same sex couples commitment is less valuable than heterosexual couples.

  • @HisEmptyHouse If gays want to get married, fine go for it, however dont expect society to suddenly change its view on mariage, marriage has been between a man and a woman for centuries, not mere years. Civil unions is more appropiate.

  • @Tony2826 Go back and read the things that people against interracial marriage said. You will be rather shocked to realize THEY LITERALLY ARE USING THE SAME EXACT ARGUMENTS AS THE PROP 8 TYPES. Right down to 'harms children.' These are literally the same people who decades ago would be trying to keep people of 'mixed races' from marrying - they've just found a new hot-button scapegoat on which to dump all their hate. The LDS church to this day still speaks poorly about interracial marriage.

  • @Seamstress36 You'll be happy to know that the prop 8 defendants didn't even attempt to defend the 'prop 8 harms kids' angle in court because they knew they couldn't win. Teaching kids that a group is inferior to another is discrimination, the prop 8 people knew it, but of course this was a courtroom - you don't have to take an oath to air dishonest TV ads. You just need a lot of money and no morals or ethics.

  • @shakaz01 Gay people can still be fired for being gay from their jobs in several states. Marriage according to our law is a right, not a privilege. It constitutions shared benefits of taxes, property, literally HUNDREDS OF LAWS. It also constitutes a societal status with it - how humiliating do you think it would be for heterosexual couples to say 'my partner' and 'my civil union' instead of 'my husband/wife' and 'my marriage'? All this contributes to regarding gays as second class citizens.

  • @HisEmptyHouse do gay people have the right to an education? to freedom of speech, of religion, to a fair trial? to own property, to travel and live any where in the usa they want? to marry whom they want according to current laws? than dont run on nonsense.
