The dislodged and the dead are increasing in North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. International awareness is still scarce given the conflict that the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) are faced with and the unceasing activities of the militias of the National Congress for the Defence of the People. The International Caritas Network is responding to this new emergency and major Catholic aid organizations in the country are joining efforts. Three dioceses in Congo are affected by the conflict: Goma, Butembu and Bunia. The emergency plan of the Caritas Network in Kivu is currently giving maximum priority to assuring the basics needs of the dislodged population, an estimated 100 thousand people in an especially precarious situation. Among the emergency measures is the supply of water and food as well as the distribution of non-perishable goods. The implementation of the plan, however, faces many obstacles due to the precarious safety conditions in which Caritas personnel must carry out their humanitarian work throughout the entire region.According to the reports provided by Caritas Congo, the situation is very critical; from the humanitarian perspective, this may constitute a true catastrophe due to the significant number of recent dislodged that may surpass 250 thousand people.
