http://www.alphastudy.com Knowledge management is the study of knowledge generation and flow within an organisation. At its core is the notion of intellectual capital manifest in both explicit information and individual experiences. The recent development of Web 2.0 has facilitated this idea by transforming the way individuals generate and engage with online information.
Knowledge management principles have been applied in many industries to improve processes. There is increasing interest in knowledge management in health care organisations as a means of improving implementation of best practice. Communities of practice are one example of this.
We describe and evaluate a novel knowledge management model using a specific Web 2.0 application. Rather than construct centralised knowledge warehouses and portals, we enabled users to build individual sites based on their own context and individual requirements. We believe that this decentralised model represents a fundamental shift in existing learning paradigms that has not previously been described in the literature.
We hypothesise that collectively, a decentralised knowledge management model is a more effective way of generating and disseminating knowledge within large dynamic organisations.
