like many, I came to Snyder thru his being depicted in Kerouac's Dharma Bums, and while all the Beat Generation figures have since been popularised and caricatured out of all recognition, Snyder seems to have remained perfectly true to himself and stable throughout - the sign of a great man, and with wisdom to tell.

It certainly sounds like him. Have you read The Practice of the Wild? That thought is basically the theme of that book. It made me look at the world in a different way.
By the way, there is some excellent stuff on he Internet Archive I'd recommend, him teaching at university and a reading from Boulder. Thanks
