currently I am doing a programming course I hate, if I complete the course I am virtually guaranteed a great job with a good salary but that alone is just not enough to motivate me, I want to be doing something more creative and less technical, It is so hard to sit down and study because I have no personal investment in the work I need to do, 2 more years left of this course but instead of studying for my exams in 2 weeks Id rather go on youtube :( , 1st world problems eh? :(

These situations are very visible in the computer science sector. Developers are never motivated by money. I've very often seen developer trade their well-payed job for part-time-student salaries only to get to do something they found more challenging. That is exactly why the open-source sector is bound to prevail. No matter where the money goes, talents will always reach to the open-source.

exactly, I understand what your saying about choosing to invest in something even if we don't like it but it's the motivation to keep at it that's the tricky part, it's like what the video says that people who achieve great things do it not for money but for themselves, we are both doing it for the money and that's the problem :-/

I feel the same way about computer science! I know its good pay, but I'm just not that into it. I think we have to make a choice to invest in something even if we don't like it all the time.
