truman was such a great man, his folksy down to earth style will never never be forgotten. Also, sad to say we will never again get a president like this.

Ahh yess, that period when it was alot easier, and expected to keep secrets (pre-watergate). LBJ from what I can remember, used to smoke cigarettes or cigars like crazy.

@at1212b Yes, LBJ died about a month after Truman. Truman's death was expected, he was 88 and in frail health in the last couple of years of his life. Johnson's death wasn't expected, at least not to the public. His family kept his heart problems out of the news after Johnson's Presidency. LBJ had several heart attacks after he left office in 1969.

Well that crap hasn't panned out too well.

They actually died around the same time. Truman definitely took care of himself (lots of walks) when he was younger.
But definitely, for someone like me born after, I can only read, watch old clips of the most interesting U.S. decade

If it wasn't for Vietnam LBJ would have been an OK president.

Loved it!

True, even our current president. Six months and counting. :-)
I just read Truman, by author David McCullough. When Truman was running for his second term as united states senator, the Republicans again showed their evil ways. The Republicans who controlled the county court forclosed on the farm homeplace of Truman. Luckily Truman was able to buy the farm back from those evil scums.

Didn't realize Truman was still around when LBJ was in office. Even though he got the U.S very involved in Vietnam, it appears Johnson maintained a sense of humor. Just thinking about Johnson, wow: Vietnam, in the car with JFK in Dallas, the Civil Rights Movement, 1965Medicare Amendment, the space program , the 60's were quite a decade. Johnson experienced firsthand history in the making while we witnessed it on television.

Yes,President Truman was around until Watergate. He's buried at his library, where this signing took place. They've got a nice website. LBJ told a lot of jokes,I've read.I have yet to meet a Texan without a sense of humour.
