You speak of a very valid and universal truth. If you don't love yourself for who you are first and foremost, how can anybody else pick up on the positive qualities that radiate from you? Like you said, stand your ground against those who are tainted by fear towards what they don't understand, or more importantly, what they're too ignorant and closed-minded to bother understanding. Unfortunately, those types of people will always exist, so don't stoop to their level.
