Modeling a head for a character design of mine, using Wings3D.

The video is time-compressed; actual modeling time was about 90 minutes.

  • Im making a video game. I made a head model. I have other projects with the other parts of him since the heads big. Wuld I have to build the body in the same project to have the head model go on a body. Or take all the models and put them in blender and then put them together there?

  • @Via1tunes Either way works, but it's probably easiest to model all the parts together so you can see how they fit. If it's for a game, you probably don't want a super high-res model. (And Wings is best at low- to mid-range polygon modelling, anyway.)

  • hmmm you must have amazing modeling skills to model a head from box. but i really don't think it is the best way to make a head model with good topology. the fact that you have to option to make n-gons must make it very difficult to have good topology.

    very good :D

  • @AlienAnimations Thanks. Actually, n-gons are not a problem if you clean them up as you go -- which you'll notice me doing in this video; the visible portions of the model are all-quad by the end. It's really the same situation as holes in non-box modelling: they don't make it "very difficult" to have good topology -- you just have to fill them in with something reasonable by the time you're done.

  • whats that blue circle?

  • I'm using the built-in "Tweak" tool (under the tool menu). When using the tweak tool, you can toggle the magnet move (blue thing) using the "1" key. Watch the status line at the bottom of the screen for more keyboard controls affecting the tool. It's extremely powerful.
