The U.S. Coast Guard will provide an update to the island's southern community on the progress of remediation efforts related to the PCB contamination of lagoon fish. It was four years ago when a fish consumption advisory was issued after numerous fish samples tested positive for PCBs.
The contamination is suspected to have come from the former Coast Guard station that operated on Cocos Island from 1944 to 1963. The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 6:30pm at the Merizo Senior Center.

I'll take a wild guess. When the site was decommissioned, they emptied out the transformers onto the ground to make them lighter for transport.
