yeah, he is playing the drums, but the pianist is also playing a beat on the keyboard. it helps with the sound difference when they beat on the top and sides of the garbage can. you get better effect that way. think about it, 20,000 some people aren't going to hear just some garbage cans being banged on, gotta think of full sound :D lol
