Police are searching for a man who is using stolen checks from a dead man.
Investigators released surveillance video of a man who has used seven of Anthony Gavoli's checks to buy $1,000 worth of goods.
The stolen checks turned up at stores in Richmond and Raytown on Oct. 28. Gavoli and his sister, Julie Ann, died in a pickup crash on Mother's Day in Hardin.
Rosie Gavoli, Anthony's mother, said she is disgusted that a thief is using her son's name.
"It's a petty crime. It's terrible. He's using our son's name, and he's deceased," Gavoli said. "It's just killing me. It's not right."
The thief is described as a clean-shaven man with short hair. He is of average height and has a thin build. He is in his mid- to upper-30s.
Police said that based on the man's purchases, he may be involved in rebuilding cars or working on cars.
Police said the culprit is driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck that has an auxiliary gas tank in the bank with a hand pump.
