I am a Japanese. This cartoon is from Japan. Its original title is "Spaceship Yamato". It is a name of a battle ship that reaaly existed. It was the last battle ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. It was sent to Okinawa as a "Kamikaze attack" without fuel to return, and was sunk. This cartooen simulates the history. Very Japanese cartoon.

If Academy Productions/Yomiuri TV were partly responsible, then they won't get away with it either. If Leiji Matsumoto wanted to strip away the feeling of the show, by giving the North Americans this, then he won't go uncalled for. He is saying that his culture and memories of the war should be dumbed down(sorry, dumbed down implies making something lesser, not getting rid of it outright), well gone and gave us this.

Very strong words to use. But it was actually the Japanese film makers that brought this to North America to get the American dollar. In North America Yamato means nothing except memories of WW2. So with calibration with English writers and Japanese they came up with STARBLAZERS. I am 41 years old and this is the best cartoon that I have ever watched and it paved the way for anime so it was for the good all around

I think the name was simply changed because Star Blazers is easier to market in the US then Uchuu Senkan Yamato.

    Calm down.

Fuck America! I like you guys, when you're not being assholes and whitewashing people's cultures, but you're not doing that in this case, so fuck you! This show means nothing, if it's not known as Uchuu Senkan Yamato/Space Battleship Yamato!

"2199" is the greatest remake work. The fans of original works should watch and cry manly without any prejudice.

If anyone is interested in watching the beautifully done remake of this, A group by the name of [Nubles] is subtitling the episodes as soon as they come out and putting them up to download free of charge. It's up to episode 14 (with new episodes releasing every month) and it's been a great remake so far, with a more mature storyline and some of the best visuals you will come across in animation.

You can find the episodes on nyaatorrents.eu, simply search "nubles space battleship yamato"
