The spotlight is on institutions of higher learning. Academics and tribalism seem to go hand in hand at nearly all constituent colleges of public universities. Tribe is a major consideration while making appointments of vice chancellors and chairmen of councils, a matter that has alarm bells ringing at the ministry of higher education. To stem the trend, the ministry is now developing a policy paper to guide such recruitments a move that could see the clipping of the presidents powers. University administrators admit that the roots of ethnicity are deeper than it appears on paper

  • witnessing below i only see to people on each other's neck over their tribe!!

    what a shame!!

mostly to one who thinks they own kenia, wait next election and see if you will boss kenians around again!!

  • It is wrong to say that these tribal appointments were also encouraged under Moi. One thing we have to giveto Moi was his observance of academic merit in such appointments. It is Kibaki who encouraged these tribal appointments, following Kenyatta paradigm, with abandon to the extent of even appointing non professors as chancellors. Under Moi, no Kalenjin ever was the chancellor of Moi University. The University was headed by Luo, Kamba, Taita untill Kibaki tribalized appointments

  • Kudos to Ruto. Tribalism is a big problem in Kenya. It must be eradicated.

  • If the professors are qualified what is your problem? Narok Colllege is not in Mogotio. I am sure there Maasai Professors out there too!

  • All appointments are made by the president after ur local tribal warlords give him names 'ya watu yetu'. Kimunya does not give a fart what yu do with ur colleges.

  • @72okoths: The futility of it all. Of the 24 appointments in the 12 Universities there r 2 Kikuyus, the rest r from your tribally oriented regions/godfathers. We have absolutely nothing to gain sending Kikuyu learned fellows to say ur Bondo University to be mired in tribal politics.

You've no case here to prove other than your Qkyuphobia. Now look at the census numbers and breed like mad b4 ur become number 42. Wacha tribal stress, its bad for sex!

  • @ siasabora you cannot face the reality of kibaki/kimunya tribal appointments and want to change the topic got you. This clip has nothing to do with Newt Gingrich and Obama

  • What did Newt Gingrich's comments about 'Kenya's colonial behavior' have to do with us and President Obama? A very strange statement! We still love the Queen!

  • @thepolarden1 am not sure, does Nation still not post comments automatically? I left long ago when I realized that..... what is the current deal?

  • @blessedfay Yes, I really, really, really am happy that NTV does NOT own Youtube... you can imagine how many comments they would be deleting ... on Youtube... you know what they used to do on their Nation page? Comments were not posted automatically but had to be READ FIRST before posting... why are these NTV people so supersensitive? the reporter here did a good and brave job to ID the ethnicity in the university leadership, so why be thin-skinned about comments?
