Paul Gunn, Data Center Administrator, discusses how visual effects company Weta Digital rendered data for films like King Kong, Lord of the Rings, and Avatar at a campus of studios, production facilities, and a purpose-built data center. For Avatar, Weta and NetApp created several caching servers on Weta's network to handle the large number of users requesting access to the movie's visual effects files. NetApp Snapshot ensured copies were readily available and helped protect the captured data.
