Why we fight

While our patrol sat in a halt, I was watching the alley with my binos. Around 30m back, this little kid kept peeking his head out of the gate, smiling and waving to us. I waved back, he waved harder. It cracked me up. So, I threw him a muffin. I tossed it as hard as I could, but it's an awkward throw--what with the sniper cage, camo net, Bose cord, IBA...
Anyway, it landed nowhere near the kid, so he was gonna have to walk a little to get it. His dad opened the gate and pointed for the kid to run and get it. The kid started running, but only made it a few meters before he realized he had no shoes on. Ouch. He ran back to the courtyard to his father. There, his dad put some sandals on his feet and escorted the child down the alley to go pick up his prize! That's when I pulled out my camera. As I filmed I couldn't help but wonder about that child's future, and that old man's past...

@Anjuschka79, apparantly you have never been to a parade? Never seen children run to vehicles and excitedly collect the candy and beads being thrown? To answer your question, YES. If I was a child staring at something as amazing as a Stryker ICV, and the operators on board threw me a treat, I would love it. Wouldn't matter if it was a toy, candy, or an individually packaged Ottis Spunkmeyer Muffin. Either way, I would go get it!

i have the opinion that killing innocent men, women, children, babies is wrong. i hope i never change my opinion. we already have too many killing the innocent for one cause or another, or simply for a paycheck and the only valid reason is they were given the order. i fail to see the leap of logic it takes for me to think i am better than any other person in the world, because i think killing innocent men, women, children, babies is wrong. i guess you learned different in bootcamp brainwashing.

@DayaneDarwich, Iraq is nothing at all like Palestine. That statement from you alone broadcasts your ignorance to all who read it. And does it make any sense to you that in one comment you bash me for being a Soldier fighting in a war, and in the next you accuse me of "living [my] life in peace and everything." So which is it? Am I living my life in peace, or am I a warmonger oppressing the free people of Iraq? I can't be both. Why don't you figure that out and get back with me.

@DayaneDarwich, nobody needs to tell me anything? I know from personal experience that the families in this particular neighborhood are not starving. I was invited into their homes on a daily basis. I sat and ate with them. You have no idea what you're talking about. You are living in your own personal, ignorant bubble. You have no idea how the rest of the world works. What experience of the real world do you have? I have been to 33 countries, and lived in 6. I have seen much of the world.

@bearnenno1 Okay so though I made a mistake, is there any difference between the two countries? Israelians and Americans controlling them and not letting them live their lives peacefully. No there isn't any different. And no, you should take my advice. You're out there in the world living your life in peace and everything. Meanwhile they're getting killed. And WHO told YOU they're not starving? WHO told YOU they haven't been killed yet? Think twice before talking man.

@DayaneDarwich, Why are you talking about Palestine? This kid lives in Iraq. They are two completely different countries, you know? What makes you think this child is starving? Do either he or the man in the video look as if they have are starving? On the contrary, the father looks quite healthy to me. The child, too, appears to be a healthy weight for his age. Maybe you should take your own advice and stop talking about things you are ignorant of.

The only difference between kids who attend parades and kids like this boy, from Palestine, is that some of them DON'T actually have anything to eat, and live in misery. @Anjuschka79 yeah the kid is wearing a gun. this war is almost as bad as NAM my friends first two weeks on the field got shot by a 12 year old kid asking for water, he unhooked him self from the 88 grabbed some water when he popped back out he got 3 shots to the chest then a guy from another humvee shot the kid.

idk. shit happens its war. they train there children from birth to hate and kill us.
