@hillaryperson - If an American Idol contestant can gather the perfect songwriters and musicians, plus have one of the best voices ever to grace this earth, then maybe you have something. But that's not reality. All that matters is the final product. "I Believe" is better than any final product Paul Simon has delivered as a solo artist. Now re-read my original post and see how you decided to twist that opinion into some competition about which artist is the better musician. Classless.

Not expecting musicians to contribute everything to a track.. just saying that Art Garfunkel is no better a solo artist than an American Idol contestant, for example. Paul is just better. End of story. :)

@hillaryperson: Did I not state in my post all of the people who also deserved credit? My crown for being the best solo work is based on the fact that the song is credited as a solo effort, as opposed to a duo (such as S&G). Based on your logic, very few recordings can be labeled as a solo effort because few artists write, produce, arrange, play every instrument, and sing on a recording. Doing everything yourself doesn't make the song better. Art knows how to choose the best people. He wins

Can't abide it. Art wasn't a musician. Art was a singer. Granted, he sang beautifully - and yes, his voice surpassed Paul's - but better than any solo effort by Paul Simon?! Did you LISTEN to Graceland? Or anything off of Paul Simon? Or how about any Simon and G-Funk music in general because it's all solo Paul! Failing that, Art didn't actually write a single track on this album. That's not a solo effort - it's called a cover band.

Beautiful song. Genius song from stevie. most are. AG can take a song and run with it.

This is Art's shining moment as a solo artist. Much credit goes to the producer as well since it is beautifully arranged and sounds heavenly: Get this on CD to hear the full effect. Of course, Stevie Wonder (the writer) is a genius. How good is this song?
1. In my Top 100 greatest records of the 1970's.
2. Better than any solo effort by Paul Simon.
3. When listening from the 2:23 mark until the end of the song, you will be as close to heaven as a human can get while on this earth.

When a songwriter writes a song and sends it out into the universe, it's his hope that someone will pick it up and do his/her thing with it. This version put a LOT of money in Stevie Wonder's pocket. He's smiling, and I love it. Arthur's voice is golden! God bless the age before autotune.
