This year, the children and volunteers at Kidz R Us were fortunate to be awarded a heritage lottery fund grant which enabled them to carry out research on aspects of the first world war and its effects on people in our home town of Tredegar, South Wales.
They tried to find the families of thirteen young men who died during the war and who's names grace a plaque within the building. Many members from the community became involved, including members from the British Legion, the history society, the library and a number of teachers as well as other professional people who all offered help and advice when approached.
All of us learned a great deal from the project and it was really heartwarming to see all age groups interacting and interested in the topic. For this, we have the heritage lottery to thank.
