Much as I hate Ted Nugent and most things he stands for, I have to agree with him in regards to obesity - even if he puts his arguments forward obnoxiously.

You get people who are naturally large and still exercise regularly/eat well, that's fine - but you wouldn't call them fat. You're not born obese. Obesity is the result of a society built on laziness and fast food - genetics don't enter into it. Furthermore, notice that there are no glandular problems in the third world.

Ted, you pushed me over the edge to where I lost 101lbs.
Both of you are right. You do become a liability to others. If you can't throw your body over a wall or climb through a window or get out of a burning huse without help then what happens to you is what you deserve.

do you really do all these things if you're overly obese or just overweight? unless you have a mental or physical disorder if you choose to be obesse is your doing. It is hard to loose weight or to lead a healthy life style in a country full of harmful food, but its your freedom to choose that, is in it your responsibility to face the consequences of your actions or would you ask society to solve that problem as well?

Yes, I really do those things. I live a busy life and believe in helping others. Why would you equate obesity with a mental disorder? I have not asked society to relieve me of any consequences stemming from my actions, nor do I believe society needs to solve my obesity; I did not say it needs to be solved. My original post simply drew the distinction between my real life as an obese person and the lambasted caricature posited by Bourdain and Nugent.

no one is measuring obesity to a metal disorder, if you personally believe in responsibility for your actions then why not expect some sort of conclusion to a fixable problem. Or do you enjoy being overweight , if that is so then its your choice, and so are the side effects (heart disease, high cholesterol, low energy) My question is why not choose a proactive stance in dealing with an obvious problem, or is it easier to conform to the circumstances?

gym, I apologize if I misread your earlier statement when you wrote, "unless you have a mental or physical disorder..."

Making fun of fat people is so prevalent that the week following the 9/11 terrorist attacks both Letterman and Leno made fat women jokes. What sort of nation grieves by making fun of a major segment of its population?

The stereotype of lazy blobs persists. I'm saying to respect obese individuals as that: individuals.

I think people can respect each other if they get to know each other, it's not based on a first impression basis. But if you choose to be overweight, whether it's because of apathy or just plain laziness then what kind of image are you projecting about yourself. The most important thing is how you feel bout yourself, what king of message are you projecting if you willingly
choose obesity. Maybe if each person got to know you they might all respect you but that is not how society works.

Yes he is and he is right, this is how it works, fat people are ugly, which means they have to find a fat partner, in turn they make fat babies and the cycle begins. FACT.

Not a universally recognized fact, your belief.
