Róbert Gunnarsson (* 22. Mai 1980 in Reykjavík) ist ein isländischer Handballspieler. Der Kreisläufer spielt beim VfL Gummersbach und ist außerdem isländischer Nationalspieler, für die er bisher 161 Länderspiele bestritten und dabei 491 Tore geworfen hat. Beim VfL trägt er die Trikotnummer 18. Gunnarsson hat eine Körperlänge von 1,91 m und wiegt 100 kg. Mit seiner Freundin Svala hat er zwei Töchter und einen Sohn.
Gunnarsson begann das Handballspielen in Fylkir und wechselte später zu Fram Reykjavík. Über den dänischen Verein Århus GF gelangte er 2005 zum VfL Gummersbach, mit dem er vier Jahre später den EHF-Pokal gewann. Im Dezember 2009 wurde sein Wechsel zu den Rhein-Neckar Löwen zum Ende der Saison bekanntgegeben.[2]
Er nahm mit Island an der Weltmeisterschaft 2007 in Deutschland teil und schied dort im Viertelfinale gegen Dänemark aus. Bei den Olympischen Spielen 2008 holte er sich die Silbermedaille. 2010 erreichte Gunnarsson bei der Europameisterschaft in Österreich den 3. Platz.

Definitely the best offensive pivot in the world. He is catching up in defence, then he can be top 3 in the world But wonderful to watch in the offense. People who watch this video maybe think this is like his best goals over his career, in fact he does these moves in every game. He catches everything, no matter how lousy the pass is, and it is impossible to the hold the guy and foul him, he always manages to twist somehow and somehow manage to get the ball in the net. Damn great player
