"Summerbaby" by Polaris

Polaris served as the house band for the mid-nineties Nickelodeon show "The Adventures of Pete and Pete." A side project of the Connecticut college band, Miracle Legion, Polaris provided most of the music used in the Nickelodeon show and appeared in the opening credits of every episode [playing on Pete and Pete's front lawn].

"Summerbaby" (1994) was a song featured in the episode "A Hard Day's Pete" where - after hearing the song on his hand-held radio - Little Pete discovers a band [Polaris] playing the song in a garage in his neighborhood. Pete becomes obsessed with the song and it's catchy hook, and when the band disappears one day, and the radio station that plays the song disappears, Pete starts his own band to keep the memory of the song alive. Great stuff!
