Faught La Jolla cove snorkeling July 2009 Amazing scenery

La Jolla cove is a wonderful place to snorkel. It was a warm day in San Diego. The water was a little chilly at first, but the wetsuit helps. The visibility was fair. I been here many times before. But this time I came armed with a waterproof casing for my sony compact t30 camera. It works.
There were a number of things happening in the water this day. One of them being dead squids (Jumbo Squid) that washed up on the beach. Apparently due to a underwater earthquake. I saw a some seals (harbor seals) and number of different species of birds. Not to mention the different kinds of fishes. The deep orange fishes are California state fish, the Garibaldi, Sand bass, Smelt, and some other fishes I can not name. There was a sand shark but it was in the deep section of the cove. I couldn't film it I didn't make it down to childrens cove as well. Next time.

i went with my family 2 days ago. there weren't close to as many fish as there was in this video. only a couple of those orange snapping fish and the skinny ones with the blue stripe. it is really fun though

This place seems pretty popular. Can you just go to the beach and start snorkeling or do you have to go with a guide or something I am going soon and I am curious about this place.

beautiful video! I'm going to go there tomorrow, with my mask, don't have a snorkel...how far out do I have to go, I'm kinda scared to go too far.

You don't have to head out far. Stay close to the sandy parts and you will be fine (there is a life guard tower present, so no worries). It's clearer as well. Try to pick up a snorkel. It does sux haven't to left your head up out of the water for air. Pick up a pair of fins. They will help you cover more area. Have a great time tomorrow!

good vid. If you go a bit more north and closer to the beach you should be able to get upclose and personal with some sharks!
