Paul Lawson was famously cagey in his 1978 ABC interview. He now explains what was on his mind. On 23 April 2009, Paul Lawson describes an incident that took place on 26 July 1949. That day, detective Lionel Leane came into his office with two detectives and Jestyn who's phone number was back in of the Somerton man's book. He says in this video that the moment he uncovered the bust of the Somerton man, Jestyn's eyes averted and she looked down on the floor. She then spent the whole interview staring at the floor and answering all questions in the negative. Interestingly, Paul refers to her as "Mrs Thompson" (!) Her behaviour was rather odd given that all other people that viewed the bust before and after, showed curiosity and were chirpy.

  • Surely Jestyn's real name is known to some people -- is there a reason this information isn't widely distributed? Is it going to harm someone, 60 years after the fact?

  • Jestyn knows who he is.

  • @Fancsii92, Perhaps she gave both men the books. Perhaps Alfred Boxall's book was a dummy book to throw off everyone with the alibi of her not giving the dead man the book but someone else.

  • nope, her real name was Teresa POWELL, her husband's name was Johnson. there is a conspiracy theory that she hid her real name because it might be the decryption key to a code which was found in a book with Jestyn's telephone number in it; same book was abandoned by Somerton Man on the day of his death and probably had belonged to Jestyn before. she stated she gave the book to another man, alfred boxall; however it turned out that boxall had his own copy so she probably lied. interesting...

  • her name WAS'NT Thompson, it was Johnson. Teresa Johnson.

  • @iamspeaker You are so right! Maybe she knew he was a spy? Or maybe the answer to this puzzle is much more mundane?

  • @setseven She does.

  • @glyphimor if it was part of a huge shady ass conspiracy leading a man to mysteriously die unidentified, probably could.

  • she friggin had his kid, Goddamit it kills me this could've been so easily solved had they just not let her go

  • The dead man had two *different* genetic conditions -- the shape of the folds of his ear, and the lack of development of some of his adult teeth from baby teeth.

Examination of Jestyn's son's pictures shows that he had both rare conditions.

  • She was probably having an affair with him. Either she called a hit on him, or she was having ANOTHER affair and that guy killed him. Just an opinion. Bc she obviously knew who the Somerton man was.

  • I don't think the bust looks much like the photograph of Somerton Man but obviously Jestyn has got something to do with him -- whether it is to do with his death or not we don't know. I wish people would release her identity, do an analysis on SM's DNA and resolve this once and for all. It seems that someone doesn't want that to occur.
