A quick demonstration of the three-stage early version of doujin shooting game PatriotDark, by Temperance Lance. A link to the version used is here:

PatriotDark bears more than a passing resemblance to a number of Cave shooting games. There's a proximity-based multiplier applied to your Shot that echoes Ketsui. You can chain enemies much like Dodonpachi. The constant switching between using your Shot to generate items, to charge a bullet-nullifying Laser attack is reminiscent of Muchi Muchi Pork. And the items gained from bullet conversion tally up like they do in Mushihimesama Original.

The game is pretty good for an early demo, with some Cave-like bullet patterns and a good, interactive scoring system to work with. My only gripe is that the game seems a little unanimated, the second stage midboss in particular is like a cannon-shaped lump, but I'd imagine that the sprites will become more animated as the developer progresses with the game.

The replay is for the Normal Difficulty game, using the Suika, Type A. Chaining in stages 1 and 2 is somewhat competent, and unbroken. I'm still working on stage3. ^_-

This is also a HQ upload test. Video captured using HyperCam 2, video and audio seperated and encoded with x264VFW and Quicktime AAC, then muxed together into an MP4 container using MP4Muxer.

  • Hmm, where did you get this version of the game with this soundtrack? The one I found was completely different and quite inferior compared to yours. Secondly, the site which has the downloads to it is obsolete and doesn't allow me to gain access to it... :(

Is there any other way to get this one instead of the "original"?

  • Holy crap, I recognize stage three's music now! It's from Ketsui!

Shame I don't recognize the first stage's music, though...

  • Good to see you playing again Icarus, kaiser here

  • Actually, I take it back. The music is directly from Ibara. I loved the stage 2 music, though! DDP DaiOuJou is awesome.

  • I agree. Poor remix from Ibara. At least the gameplay's good.
