@billyguns2 I think Von Karajan did well...

Magnificent! The music as performed here never comes down until the final chord; this is great music making, Nobody understood Wagner's mysticism and musical structure better than Furtwangler, and he had the perfect partner in Madame Flagstad. We are truly in another world here.

Thank you for this berautiful post. What a really great artist. Its hard to believe that she was not longer a young woman. The sheer sound of her voice has never been equaled and she sang in such a musical manner.

@TheWisemonkey8 Have you ever heard the fantastic Covent Garden Tristan with Melchoir that was recorded live by EMI with Beecham conducting in the mid 1930's its fantastic! She pops high c's in the love duet that Nilsson would be more than proud of and the power and beauty of her voice was beyond anyone else. The greatest soprano ever IMO.

I am speechless here. How is it possible that a human being can create such a wall of sound!?! It is frankly unbelievable. Love this thank you my friend in music :).
When Flagstad sang with Furtwangler, she surpassed herself in this music. Yes, there is Leider, Varnay, Traubel, Nilsson; but Flagstad is glorious here. Thanks for sharing.
