That is because they do not come shave ready. Most places that sell them tell you that they need to be honed.

I had to send my brand new Dovo Special to a professional honer before I could shave with it.

@johnnytastetest straight razors are making a come back since in the long run it is cheaper. according to dovo and many other companys they are havng a hard time filling orders.

In Europe I would think straight razors and the practice of shaving with them is not so much a lost are or "taboo" as it is here in the states. Although I can imagine the use of safety razors over there is more common than straight razors. I can't wait to get my first straight razor!!!
