Interlaken was another place where we stopped on our car ride from Lucerne to Grindelwald, Switzerland (also see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o1z6_fZb1k ). Interlaken is a well known tourist destination in the Bernese Oberland, and it seemed to us that there are mostly Indian tourists hanging around there. The reason for this must be the fact that some of the Indian Bollywood films are shot in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. That makes lots of Indian people curious about the region.
Interlaken is located between two lakes, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, which gave the town its name: between lake (in Latin "inter lacus"). No surprise that there is a river running through town connecting the two lakes, the Aare river.
Despite its small size (around 5000 inhabitants), the town features two railway stations Interlaken East and Interlaken West, and two funicular railways, the Harderbahn and the Heimwehfluhbahn. The video is taken near the train station Interlaken East and shows a train crossing the Aare river immediately after leaving the station. If you look carefully, you will also see the line of the Harderbahn (on the left side of the bridge going up to the mountain).
