I'm Italian (not Italian-American, Italian-Italian), and I have to say that Paulie's speech is bullshit.
First of all he was born and lives in America, so he must show gratitude for the country that accepted his ancestors and therefore him. Second, if we think at how many American things, foods etc etc. the whole world is surrounded by, that reasoning don't work at all.

Right. I never said they weren't American. If you actually read and comprehended what i wrote, you would know that race, ethnicity, and nationality are all different things. If someone is raised in this country and a citizen then yes their nationality is American but if their parents or other ancestors were all from Italy than they have Italian heritage.
Other than Native Americans there is no such thing as just being "American" Genetically we are all different.
