C.B Utility/C. Brito Construction of Bristol, RI comes to the aid of the City of Newport, RI when a 36-inch sewer force main breaks over Easter weekend, threatening to dump 80% of Newport and Middletown's raw sewerage into Newport Harbor. C. B. Utility and Godwin Pumps (an international supplier of automatic self-priming pumps and piping) deploy emergency response teams to take immediate action. The combined ingenuity of both companies saves the day and minimizes the disruption to this tourist mecca. In just seven days, C. B. Utility created a nearly 32,000 lf bypass, picking up 3 pump stations and 2 additional main lines that feed directly into the sewer treatment plant. A portion of the bypass runs out of direct foot and vehicle traffic, along the 2 mile railroad used by the Newport Dinner Train.
