This AOH Memorial Ceremony on Sunday June 7th, 2009 at St. Kieran's Cemetary, Heckschervsille, Irish Valley in Schuylkill County, Pa. honors the 31 original AOH members of the Heckschersville Division laid to rest in the tiny graveside on a hill watched over by the now closed St. Kieran's Church.

In the mid 1800's, Heckschersville received an AOH charter simultaneously with New York City. The historical significance of the graves at St. Kieran's for our local, state, and national AOH and LAOH organizations, as well as for Irish American culture, is immense. Tommy Symons, AOH and coal region historian, tells the story of the Irish immigrant in the coal fields of Pennsylvania and the importance of today's ceremony.

The event was part of the 1st Annual Irish Valley Heritage Day.
