The sporting pride of Leeds Met are celebrating after becoming champions of Varsity Day for the fourth consecutive year.
Teams from the University battled it out with students from The University of Leeds to become overall champions of the annual sporting competition, winning the finale - the Men's Rugby Union at Headingley Carnegie Stadium 28-17.
The badminton teams swept the board with victories in both the men and women's games. The men's basketball 2nd team claimed a superb 72-16 victory at the University of Leeds Sports Centre, while in the same venue both the women's volleyball and the women's squash teams won 3-0.
Over at Weetwood playing fields, the women's football were hugely successful with a 10-0 win over their hometown rivals, while the women's hockey beat the University of Leeds 4-0 and the women's rugby team aimed high to reach an astounding 68-0 victory. In the men's lacrosse match both teams fought hard, but Leeds Met kept their edge and came out on top with a 20-14 result.
In aquatic sports, the women continued their reign of success with a 4-2 win in water polo.
For the first time since its creation in 2005, Leeds Varsity 2008 has included second, third and fourth teams in a range of different events, as well as a range of new sports to the competition. Cricket teams began the games a week early with success for the Men's 1st and 2nd teams at the YCCC Indoor Cricket Centre.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Leeds Met Athletic Union President Niki Bird said: "I call upon my fellow Carnegie competitors once again, not to measure themselves by past accomplishments, but by what you can achieve with your ability today.
"As we go in pursuit of a fourth title, let us use our experiences to tell us what to do and our confidence will allow us to do it. Competitors; congratulations and good luck."
