Binghamton University hosted the fourth annual Girls Take Charge leadership conference at the University Downtown Center. The event was presented by Binghamton's Smart is Cool group, which helped facilitate the workshops.
The program was open to girls in grades 7-12 and introduced participants to local female leaders who shared their experiences and insights on creating success and making a difference. Through workshops and skill-building sessions, students got to identify their own personal leadership styles.
Workshop topics included collaboration, creating life maps, a series of group activities and discussions on topics of confidence and body image, and risk taking. New topics this year for high-school participants included evaluating personal skills and traits, decision-making and effective communication.
