Frugality is cultivated i think, and as Pip was not brought up to know the worth of money, though he may have often felt the lack of it, and he had so yearned after the life of a gentleman, he found himself in a predicament that he did not know how to handle. There are many that know more than he about saving, and who work hard besides, who fall under similar predicament if not worse. This is not to justify him by any means to be sure.

I think few are the people today who would give a person the means of making their fortune with out having it ever to be know. We love acknowledgment so. This at least is very applaudable in Pip I think.

The worse people to become rich and come good are those who originaly come from poor beginnings. That has always been the case.

@jamierourketen He lived 100 years later, both were Jewish & both killed by the Romans publicly for their faith.Rabbi Akiva had his skin scraped off to the bone by an iron comb for his following of Judaism. He taught : "What is hated by you do not do do to your other {person &/or G-D}"
