A lot of amazing dogs come through this shelter, but not too many like me. You see, despite having great instincts and keen obedience skills, I somehow lost track of my family.
The shelter staff and volunteers have been really patient, as the change was pretty stressful for a mature breed like me. My new surroundings seemed to remind me of an arena where I've worked before, so I kept trying to round everyone up. I wasn't being difficult; I was just doing what I'd been taught to do! Then some nice volunteers who call themselves PALs took me offsite, where I could show them how much time my family had invested in training me. Boy, did I show them...Heel! Sit! Down! Stay! Come! Right on cue - at close range and way out at a distance. (And no herding out in the real world; for goodness sake, I know there's a proper time and place for everything!)
No, I'm not like those "fluff pups," all wiggly-waggly and mushy. I'm polite, faithful, dependable, and ready to serve - a true working dog who's content to stand by your side, waiting for your next command. (I will, however, throw dignity to the wind for a game of fetch.:)
All I need to be complete is someone to love and serve for the rest of my life. And if you happen to be a sensational senior like me (62+ in human years), I can be yours for FREE through the shelter's Seniors Helping Seniors program.
