I like coming back to watch this pretty often. :)

i think it's awesome that you think that. i take important occasions more seriously than my friends, and it makes me think that i'm just sappy and feel weirdly connected to them, but i guess i just value it more. :) that makes me feel good.
-
@land9631 You're totally entitled to feel that way, but it makes me sad that you do. Each new day is a chance for all of us to start something awesome, and that makes me hopeful for the future. I hope you get to experience something wonderful that will change your mind on this topic.

The best is certainly not yet to come, that is propaganda. I think your perception of life is Pollyannaism. Life is nothing less than a tragedy.
-
Thank you, Alex. My first serious relationship fell apart recently and I really needed this. You've reminded me that just because my time with him is over doesn't make our time together mean any less. Thank you. <3

I like serious/sappy Alex. He should come around more often.
-
I'm glad I saw this video.
-
THAT'S WHY I WATCH YOUTUBE. You are awesome! Loved it. =)
-
Holy crap, Alex. You need to write a book and publish all the freaking amazing ideas you have!
-
Thank you so much for sharing this, it's....I dunno just beautiful. You make so much sense. I like sappy Alex just as much as happy-go-lucky Alex.

Your grandpa is a Seattle U alumni? I go to SU now and soon to be an alumni myself! I got a chance to interview my gradnmother who is 90 and heard a lot about her history for my school project. It's an indescribable feeling of hearing about 90 years of life and thinking how I exist here today:) It was a very sweet video Alex. Happy 80th birthday Alex's grandpa!
-
I wish that my grandfather had lived till 80 he died 2 or 3 weeks before christmas. about a week or 2 after my birthday. I'm not gonna go trough the whole sob story, but it was the second death ever of someone I knew well and both of them happened in the same year. You are sooooo lucky Alex. Say happy birthday to him!!!! <3<3<3<3!!!!

My grandparents went to college a couple of miles from where they grew up, got married really young and bought a house. Except for the fact that they retired (from teaching, the only job either of them ever had post college) their lives pretty much haven't changed at all. They still live in that same house and are pretty much miserable because they see everything changing around them and find it scarier than anything. Same lesson of the benefits of being ok with letting go, only a sadder example

@italktosnakes And for the record, I think this should have gone on your main channel. <3

I adored this video Alex. I know this relates to so many things beyond Harry Potter, but with the final movie coming out soon and everything sort of winding down a bit in our "world" so to speak, I feel like this is something people need to hear right now. It's inspiring and uplifting.
I might blog about my reaction to this tomorrow. :)

@thebrightone94 Once the problem arose, our band director told us that he never will have the luxury of being able to preserve and hold onto a single image of th perfect group of students. While his students grow and leave, he must remain to usher in a new generation of musicians. A new dynamic will develop every year and will be unique to that particular group of students. I've learned to preserve last year as the special year that it was, but I will not let it tarnish the years to come.
-
@thebrightone94 Throughout the remainder of the year, we continued to share cherished moments and memories (both through music and outside of band) that will surely last us a lifetime. However, one third of our band, inevitably, had to graduate at the end of the school year. Those of us who still had a year or two before finishing school became increasingly worried about how our semmingly perfect group of students would manage without everyone who had graduated.
-
Totally agree, Alex. :) I'm heavily involved in my high school's band prgram, and one thing that, like you said, scares me the most is how the dynamc of the group (there are over 100 students in the band) changes from year to year. Last year, my sophomore year, my band was granted the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to march in the 2010 Tounament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. Needless to say, with all the preparations, my band became an incredibly tight-knit group of people.
-
That's so beautiful, Alex. Well said, too.
-
this speaks to me so much right now, Im graduating from high school in 3 weeks. a little scared
-
All of your subscribers came out in force to like this video. That's so cool :)
-
aw. that was beautiful! I am a sappy person too, you are awesome alex.

Thanks for the words they really helped me. There are so many adventures left to come, but that does not mean that these fleeting moments, this nonpermanent state is devalued. Let’s live it up my friends and spend as much time together as we can. Build the memories this second for tomorrow we may never see each other again. To those lost, those found, those by my side, and those poets (AlexCarpenter) I send my love.
-
Firstly, it's obvious that you can't stop smiling this whole video :) I think that really shows how much you care about your grandpa and how genuine these words are. And it's really sweet.
Secondly, I very much agree! I think people could always benefit from putting things in this perspective. It makes everything seem less overwhelming. Thanks for the reminder ;)
I agree, but I have to address the Ron/Hermione Harry/Ginny thing because fandom haters have hated on me for that. One, I know multiple couples (mostly from my church) who were high school sweethearts and are married and still in love years later. Two, Hogwarts is not high school. Three, most teens also won't have to fight to save the world and watch multiple friends die, so they deserve their share of extra happiness as well.

Alex, I wanted to personally thank you for this video. I am graduating from college very soon now, and you reminded me how much I need to enjoy this time but then also be ready to move on. As Dr. Seuss said "Don't cry because it's over smile because it happened".
