After discovering the Ecomobile in the early 1980s and testing it in 2009, it was about time to move toward Winterthur to meet it's descendant.
I had a wonderful family welcome from the team with coffee and croissants. First impression, The Monotracer is much more nice in real than on paper. What a design !
After a small walk around with Steven working on the top secret Etracer technology
(I found foot print on electronic dashboard and some nasty words glued on the non communicating bloody thing), I had my first drive backseat with Roger.
Obviously, he knows about driving in traffic with this huge machine as he was closer to car than me on bicycle. Comfort is the main improvement you can see and feel inside.
Really not a problem to have a long pax drive, no claustrophobia issue, nether unsafe feeling. It's still quite noisy as the BMW engine needs to be reved to give something.
Steel a heavy machine to pull. No sporty attitude engine wise but the dynamic is very good, specially braking and rolling centre.
After testing this nice machine, I had the opportunity to drive it ! And this is a real challenge. Hard to explain but basically, you have the top of your body driving a bike
with your arms and hands where the bottom part is seating and behaving in a car. You need to (try) to reset your brain and learn to drive this.
My first take off was surprisingly successful, where the next three were real crashes. If you don't act at the tents of a second where you release the landing gear, you are down.
After a 10 minutes break to integrate that, I did not crashed any more but now the challenge of turning was there. I could not succeed in three attempts to turn right, so I decided to try left hand turn, my natural side.
And it worked out great, even if having a llooonnng range diameter. Great great experience, can't wait to learn to drive mine. Thanks Roger !

  • Great video! Looks like his home-area is just a huge racetrack for Roger... :)

I wish you success with your training and I hope that you will upload more footage when you got your own MonoTracer...
