...Compare their music to stuff by, say, Eric Bourden & The Animals, or The Troggs, or The Spencer Davis Group, and tell me how it's so much more special than any of theirs. IT'S NOT, and you don't know a damn thing about music if you say otherwise. I'm not saying that, overall, The Beatles had no talent whatsoever, or that they didn't deserve at least some of what they had gotten, but they just weren't as special or groundbreaking as most people seem to believe.

I'm actually with Jon about The Beatles. Except for me, I think it's just that The Beatles were largely the product of media hype and a "right place, right time" timing. Also, their music was all written under the influence of drugs, but unlike artists like Jimi Hendrix or The Kinks, couldn't handle the drugs enough to write coherent, decent songs. ("I Am The Walrus," anyone?) And the music they did write wasn't really any more special or different than anything else from that era...
