Ace Invaders game on the Jupiter Cantab Jupiter Ace vintage home computer. Retro Gaming.

This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability.
It's simply a quick demonstration of the game so that anyone not familiar with these old games can see what it looks like.
It's also here so that I can embed it, along with most of the games in my collection, on my website (see link above).

Any opinions or comments I make regarding these games should largely be taken with a pinch of salt.
They are usually based on my first impressions after a very brief play.

  • What are you loading the games from, floppy disk? This reminds me of early handheld games because of the very slow graphics, and the beepy sound effects, this is really quite interesting.

  • It would be loaded from tape, if I actually had the original tape.

As it is, software for this machine is even rarer than the computer itself, ie. ultra rare, so I found a few of the games on the web, stored as wav files, and played them through winamp, with a cable running from the headphone socket on my laptop to the tape input socket on the Jupiter Ace.

  • Is it me, or does this thing suffer significant slowdown whenever you fire?

  • I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

It's definitely very hard to track the position and speed of your missile when you fire though, coz it's only visible half the time.

  • A few years ago (actually, a little bit more than a few years), somebody did a rather nice port of "Manic Miner" for the ZX81. I wonder if it could be done with the Jupiter Ace as well, even as a joke? (I think, somebody then ported the ZX81 port to the system the game first appeared on, the ZX Spectrum. No Comment...)

  • Wow, 19k, I think we are going to have to wait a while for computers that powerful to come along Steve ;o)
