  • I saw "Giacomo" Aragall as the Duke many times when I was a regular at the Met in the 60's, usually with Moffo or Peters and MacNeil or Merrill. I took his voice for granted. We weren't limited to only three tenors in those days. He was handsome and looked great in tights. It's sad that he is almost forgotten today because he made so few recordings. He also sang in "Esclarmonde" when the Bonynges brought it to the Met. He still lives in Spain and is much respected by Domingo, Carreras et al.

  • Yes, Placido Domingo ever spoke about him very very nice in his books. I love Aragall´s Bella figlia dell amore and Cielo e mar! from RCA´s Barcelona soundtrack.

  • But he recorded much more - Tosca with te Kanawa, Simon Boccanegra - his problem was that he will under producents of Decca group. And in the same time Decca produces quantity of Pavarotti´s main recordings. If some Decca managers were interested in decrease of Pavarotti´s competitors (rivals), there was the best strategy to "buy" Aragall´s voice. But of course - I thing that Aragall had not so "drive" as Domingo or Pavarotti. May be astrology would know why... :)))

  • I'd never heard him before today (looked him up after hearing Pavarotti's comment). Seriously great voice. Such an even progression through the passigio, and brilliant ringing tones all the way through. I think I agree with Pav (who is my favourite).

  • This is really great!

Aragall has a most beautiful liquid voice.

And yes, it was an amazing idea to cast him and Pavarotti together in I capuletti e montecchi back in 1968.

  • On utube there is a Pavarotti interview about the history of his career etc, and he states that in the early 60's the opera world was getting to know 3 very good and upcoming young tenors- Domingo, Aragall and Pavarotti, and Pavarotti throws in a little phrase 'Of the three, Aragall was the best.' How's that for an assessment of Aragall.

  • He is a very great singer!!!! A great voce and a wonderful technic!!!

  • I saw Giacomo Aragall as the Duke of Mantua in Budapest in 1966. I did not understand what happened to him with his wonderful voice.

  • Where are we able to obtain products of Aragall ? Please. People have full operas, cd` and dvd`s So where can we olease buy these valuable products???

    Erika

  • You can buy it on Amazon. Sublime.

  • Please let us not forget that Aragall did record a complete studio Rigoletto in the mid-80's. He was the reason to own the recording. His Gilda was a correct, but cool Lucia Popp. Bernd Weikl was the Rigoletto and Gardelli conducted. This was an Ariola-Eurodisc recording, the rights to which belonged to BMG and thus revert to SONY. SONY, please re-release this recording for all of us Aragall fans! I saw Aragall as the Duke several times, memorably at the MET, w/Scotto and MacNeil. BRAVO!

  • Que bueno es, no me canso de escucharlo.

    Donde hay mas?

  • The greatest tenor of our age.
