Yet another tune from a set recorded when Amy was 15 years old. This is the tune, when she was 14, that made folks sit up and take notice. After working on some rudimentary blues she pointed to this tune and simply said, "I want to play that." "Are you aware how difficult this is?" "No." "It's very difficult." "I still want to play it." And she went about learning it, completely unaware of any of the lore surrounding the song, not yet aware of who Charlie Parker was, just seeing the music and wanting to play the song. Addendum: My friend Swingman posted the first recorded rendition of Confirmation (it's in my Favorites) with Milt Jackson playing the A section.

  • regurgitated pentatonic scale solo with no changes, bad rhiddim on the head

  • @isrobots 15 year old kid. How were you playing at that age? Me, I'd never even heard of Charlie Parker.

  • Say NAFTA, with your approval, I'd like to post a video response to this cut of Amy's - the original 1946 recording of "Confirmation" by Dizzy Gileespie w/Milt Jackson on the original Dial label 78.

Amy really matched the feel of the original. :)

  • I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • Kid gets down.

  • the drummer's the one who sounds like she's 15. awful drumming. great vibes though!

  • All I can say is wow.Amy sure can swing.Milt Jackson and Bobby Hucterson better watch out. This kid is awesome.

  • Five stars for this fine music, played with great taste. Please post clips of next musical vacation.

  • Dig. :)

Amy's definitely got Milt's feel down - not to mention one hell of a sense of rhythm and free swinging.

15 years old? Amy, if you're reading this take heed: DON'T give it up down the line. You've got one hell of a bright future on vibes - and such a natural feel that a LOT of musicians lack these days. Nurture that & never ever be satisfied. Keep the love of learning music alive within you - be insatiable about it.

Thanks so much for shooting me the link, NAFTLA! :)

  • Nice playing ,,,,,keep it up......

    Charlie
