I saw this ad in a 1952 episode of "Colgate Comedy Hour"! Seems to have been used for quite a while.

Hard to believe, this was one of the first animated ads ever filmed for commercial TV (during 1947-'48, when Ajax was first introduced), produced by James "Shamus" Culhane [he later featured examples of the characters in his book "Animation: From Script To Screen"]. Paul Frees and June Foray are two of the voices behind the "Ajax Elves"...the trio continued to appear into the early '50s.
