Some are calling it the cloud of the future.... Google is releasing the first commercially available -- consumer cloud-centric computer operating system. You can call it -- the Chromebook.

KING-5 TV ANCHOR: "In a two-minute video, Google calls it a computer-like object that connects to the web eight seconds after turning on. Google's Chromebook available June 15. It's going to cost between $350 and $500. Students will be able to rent them for $20 a month and there's a $28 a month subscription fee for businesses."

News outlets say it may look like a laptop --- what's behind it, makes it better.

SCOTT MCGREW, KNTV: "Well it's much simpler. Google handles all the virus protection and the updating and as the company says in an ad, as long as you don't throw the thing in the river it will work. And even if you do throw it in the river, all your stuff will be safe Laura because it's not actually stored on the device it's stored up at Google in the cloud."

So no programs -- everything stored online -- news outlets are buzzing.

WIRELESS WEEK: "This is an important evolutionary step for the device market...Almost every part of technology has transformed to be web optimized. To quote my colleague...'we access what we want, when we want' because we're always connected."

Buzz aside, a contributor for ZDNet calls this cloud --- a new class security risk. While the endpoint is more secure, the data could be easier to steal.

".. with all your data being available into the cloud, in one place, available 24/7 through a fast internet link, this will be a goldmine for cybercriminals. All that is necessary here is to get hold of the authentication tokens required to access the cloud account..."

Good or bad, Bloomberg TV just wants to know, besides giving Microsoft a run for its money, what's in it for Google?

CRIS VALERIO, BLOOMBERG: "We all know what happened last time when it tried to make hardware and software together in the Nexus One, it failed. So I did pose that question to Google's SVP of Chromes Sundar Pichai....So trying to get more people online, to therefore search more to therefore get Google more money."

The Telegraph reports -- Google has 'no plans' for an ad-supported Chromebook.
