  • Fred parked his steam roller, on our street in Broadheath (Altrincham) on his way back from a show somewhere, probably because there were 2 pubs at the end of our road (Navigation Rd). Early 1970's.

He took time to talk to all us young lads about the contraption & also chatted about the Bridgewater Canal & that.

he inpsired me to keep touch with my local history & I never missed one of his TV programmes.

A true Gentleman, with proper values & manners. Sadly missed.

  • Where's his hat ???

  • A character of Fred's stature deserved a better interviewer.

  • @ approx 5:07 What the fuck does this gay bastard know about women?

I didn't like the way he tried belittling Fred at the beginning.

Fred was worth 50 of this talentless prick.

Sorry for the rant, but I hold Fred very dear,I met him a couple of times, had a beer with him, amongst a gang of us,and found him to be salt of the earth.

    Not many like him left,sadly.

Too many woofters like Harty for my liking.

  • Fred scrubbed up OK for that show, Sunday best and everything but he don't look right without that infamous grease & soot encrusted cap. I wonder if he kept a clean cap for with his best suit? We'll never know now.

  • 4;47 its true, the point of the journey is not about the arrival its the journey itself, well said fred.
