It is not unusual for a political campaign to have people knocking on doors. Last week, the Riley for Mayor campaign launched Joe's Neighborhood Corps creating an unprecedented effort.
The Riley for Mayor campaign has hired a group of 16 college and/or graduate students who were looking for a summer experience involving community organizing and civic engagement. Over a 6-week period during the summer, these 16 Corps members will visit the neighborhoods in Charleston to talk with residents -- one on one. As they leave the neighborhoods, they will produce a report for Mayor Riley summarizing what they have heard. This report will also be made available to neighborhood residents so that can see what others in their neighborhood have said.
