This was completely unscripted. We just wanted to test out a new microphone (Audio-Technica AT3031). Shot on a Panasonic DVX100 with existing light.

  • Excellent camera work...love the long shots. Fair sound. Horrible acting. Love the ending credits song...who's the artist and the song title?

  • The ending credits song is a mashup between The Rapture and Mobb Deep.

  • @chulokulo I will totally owe up to the horrible acting. I'm the guy sitting in the chair.

  • hey guys, just wanted to say i thought the quality was pretty good! im looking to upgrade my overheads from apex 191's to these. you guys think theyll perform as drum overheads?

  • It was overhead and to the side. We were quite impressed by the AT3031. If we had used our standard shotgun (AT897b) it would have sounded "tin canny." The AT3031 is directional to a degree, but for the most part, you just want to aim it in the general direction of the sound. Not too close because then it will start to "favor" one talent over another.

  • have you tried any boom mic from sennheiser?

  • The pickup pattern on the 3031 is closer to a cardiod than a hyper. It has some range but you don't want to aim it directly at any one person. Otherwise that person will be heavily favored on the soundtrack. Especially in a multiple talent talking scene like this one.

  • We boomed from overhead and to the side. It is rather far off to the side. We were quite impressed with this mic's abilities. If we had used our standard shotgun (AT-897b), it would have sounded compressed and "tin can" like. The room we were in was incredibly echoing, but this was no significant problem for the 3031.

  • where was the boom? was it over their heads? cause the shots are so high up that the boom would have to be clear 3 feet over their heads..

  • Mounted on a Gitzo 557C 9' boompole with AT universal shockmount. However the mic was run directly into the camera.
