In this building lesson I show how to build an edge for a boffer. In this I take a boffer apart to show the layers. This is hopes to give kind of a Rev.-Eng. feel to it. I also give the secret to easy handguards.

  • I'm curious, how would you cut the groove into the insulation? If it was me, I'd just use an X-Acto knife, but I'm sure that there is a better method. Thanks in advance to any answers!

  • I would only put a grove in a show piece and not one for tool. It becomes dangerouse. (My openion) I would use your suggestion..but I would use it in a manner that would be safe. I have a 32 piece set that I use oftewn for this kind of thing

  • Im not sure about a flat blade unless you go to a master foamsmith, somthing with an edge like this > could be bad because hitting with brute force might cause the frail outside edge to bend inwards

  • Agreed. Fortunitly The only people I have ever allowed onto my field with such tools, were students that I trusted to have learn enough control and discipline that brute forces on the field were not a probability to the level of being concidered implausable. I completly agree with your warning thoe, and incouraga all who read this to think before you swing, and check with local rules and regulations before makeing anything like this. Good Catch my friend

  • do u know aw to make a foam mace?

if u do could u show me ow to make 1

  • Sorry friend. Work not with that style. I would guess you set another layer around the end where the mace would be.

  • will last year i make this crazy hand guard that was made with pvc foam it was kind of tight but if some were to hit you in the hand you would feel no pain what so ever

p.s i have made one wasn't as tight if ever get a chance i will make a video on it

  • Yeah, it's lightsabery.

  • I finally started adding those edges to my boffers, not exactly as you did it here only because I need to have the thrust tips for the LARP I am involved in, preventing the cool rounded edge from being a feasible add-on, but they are turning out great anyways. As always, awesome tutorial, Will.

(BTW: Forest green isn't THAT bad a boffer color :P)

  • This is really neat! I'm working on getting together enough money (between school books and car and insurance payments) to build a boffer. I really wanna make one with an edge now! Thanks!
