http://www.essentialtennis.com The split step is one of the very most important parts of tennis footwork around the court and yet it gets completely ignored by SO many recreational players.

In this first of three instructional videos I outline exactly why the split step is so important and then use David Ferrer as an example to teach the three most important technique elements when performing one.

  • @MrChacha77 Great!

  • Ian, i jus wanted to tell you, that you spend an aweful lot of time talking about alot of stuff before you get to the point in what you are saying in alot of your videos on youtube. Pleze get to the point otherwise, if you dont you wont get alot of peple. Im jus givin u advice.

  • @SupremeTennis I can't agree more, I too really appreciate and anticipate your videos, and I am saying the same thing because we want you to have more views and more videos.

It is a little off topic most of the time and not straight to point enough, hope you won't mind the feedback

  • @fishbelly Please keep in mind that every single person watching these videos is in a totally different place with their tennis. For some everything they hear me say is totally new and they need to hear every word. For others nothing is new at all and it's all review. Most people fall in between and I try to do my best to place the amount of information "in between" as well. Please keep in mind others below your own level and the task I have of trying to bring value to everybody at once :)

  • I have a questiuon... When you say stay on the ball of your heels, does that include while running and hitting? Does that mean that you dont plant your feet before you swing? I have struggled with this question for years.

  • @JThorss0N You're welcome :)

  • @WooTennis Good question, I'll be addressing that in video #2!

  • @tharrison1963 Thanks so much for the feedback, I appreciate it!

  • Hi Ian

This is a great piece of work, looking forward to the other videos. I have been playing tennis for 2 years now and at the point where I know what I should be doing even though I'm not doing it! Your approach is always enthusiastic and very informative. I'll be playing my next game with your advice on the split step ringing in my ears.
