Researchers at the University of California San Diego compared the sperm swimming speed of chimps, macaques humans and gorillas. They looked at whether more promiscuous primates had faster sperm.

Evolutionary research, more data for people studying in vitro/in vivo fertilization, improvements on techniques of using optical tweezers to trap mobile cells, etc... The list goes on and on. It's this kind of research that builds the foundations on which new medical and scientific knowledge can be discovered.
